Being a believer in serendipity, It shouldn’t be any big surrise that the III Associates found us. Mary, Reg and Chris, the three individuals that are the III Associates are just really good people who have a simple clear goal - to produce premium quality McLaren Vale wines that offer value for money. If you include Mary’s husband John in the mix, there are really four associates, but I guess John & Mary work so closely together, they really are a single unit, so it is III Associates, not four.
These wines are estate grown, and are essentially single vineyard wines, although which of the vineyards the grapes come off for each vintage will vary depending on which produces the right quality of grapes. The wines are made by one of the best winemakers in McLaren Vale, Brian Light. Brian is an Australian winemaker of the Year Awardwinner (1987/88) and has twice won McLaren Vale’s best winemaker award, the “Bushing King”. Brian is internationally recognized, and regularly supervises wine making in a number of countries.
Although McLaren Vale is regarded as a cool climate, the fact is that summer temperatures can be relatively high, and this is reflected in the character of many McLaren Vale wines - they can be big and fruity. You will, however, find, the III Associates wines to be more elegant in style, with a beautifully balanced palate and structure.
We are very proud to make the III Associates wines available in the US for the first time. Presently available are their 2002 Three-D (Sauvignon Blanc/Semilon), 2002 Chardonnay, 2002 Barrel Fermented Semillon, 2000 Shiraz, 2001 The Third Degree (Merlot/Cabernet/Shiraz blend) and the Three Score and 10 Grenache (being from 70 year old vines that Mary’s husband John has lovingly rejuvenated).
